Silicon Valley: Kiratech Journey in the places where innovation was born

Here we are with a new Kiratech adventure! Today we want to tell you (mainly though pictures) about the journey of Kiratech, in particular of our CEO Giulio Covassi, in the Silicon Valley and in the places where THE innovation was born.

The Silicon Valley tour has started with the visit to Computer History Museum in Mountain View, where we had the opportunity to understand all the main stages of the Computer and Video-game history.

During our visit we saw the first Personal Computer in the world, Olivetti Programma 101, invented by Olivetti, especially by engineer Pier Giorgio Perotto, between 1962 and 1964, and produced in 1965.

Another thing that has struck us has been the First IBM Mainframe, you can see it in the picture below.

One key point in the history of computer has been also the born of Unix, the operative system ancestor to Linux. And, at the museum we saw the 1st operative manual of Unix.

We went then in depth into the history of Federico Faggin, the inventor of the first CPU, and we had the chance to play with Pong, one of the earliest arcade video games and the very first sports arcade video game. It was a tennis sports game featuring simple two-dimensional graphics.

Another key point that has changed the history has been the creation of Univac: the second commercial computer made in the United States. The main memory consisted of tanks of liquid mercury implementing delay line memory, arranged in 1000 words of 12 alphanumeric characters each. The first machine was delivered on 31 March 1951.

Then obviously has been the Apple II, one of the first highly successful mass-produced microcomputer products, designed primarily by Steve Wozniak (Steve Jobs oversaw the development of the Apple II's unusual case and Rod Holt developed the unique power supply). It was introduced in 1977 at the "West Coast Computer Fair" by Jobs and was the first consumer product sold by Apple Computer.

Then we saw an internet temple: the Google’s first Server!

We went also in the HP Garage, a private museum where the company Hewlett Packard was founded. It is located at 367 Addison Avenue in Palo Alto, California and it is considered to be the "Birthplace of Silicon Valley”!

Then we passed the Facebook Headquarters (we couldn’t miss a picture in front of this spectacular Facebook rainbow in 1 Hacker way), the Apple campus, and we had a small tour into VMware Headquarters. It was a Great experience to visit such great Companies!

We visited also Stanford, the homeland of the Stanford University campus. It’ been a real emotion to see the place where the most famous Stanford students started, in order to found then many global companies including Google, Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Sun Microsystems, and Yahoo!. It should give you a lot to think the fact that companies founded by Stanford alumni generate more than $2.7 trillion in annual revenue, equivalent to the 10th-largest economy in the world. Moreover fifty-nine Nobel laureates have been affiliated with the University, and it is the alma mater of 30 living billionaires and 17 astronauts.
